Learn How The Mustang Got Its Start

The Ford Mustang is one of the most notable muscle cars that was ever created. During its extended history Ford Motor Company has created several variations of it and produced special editions that have sold for hundreds of dollars. The total construct and conception of the auto started in 1962 with the conception of the very first generation Ford Mustang.

The first generation Mustang was the beginning of a new era for Ford and for the muscle cars. The model was first debuted in 1962 as a two-seater car that was established with a V4 mid-engine. In October of 1963 the Mustang II was debuted and designed as a four-seater auto built with a front engine. This went on sale just six months after. The consumers enjoyed the appearance that the vehicle had to bring and it soon rivaled that of the Corvette.

The first-gen Mustang was made with the figure of a unibody construction and was laid over a wheelbase that was 108 inches and 181.6 inches long. Ford was driven to utilize correspondent parts from the Ford Falcon so they would be able to save money. These components included the rear suspension and double wishbone coil spring.

The front section of the vehicle was longer then usual and bulged farther into the back giving the muscle car a much longer hood and a lower sized roof. The design was employed to save Ford money - but in the end it was what made it so unique and fashionable. Along with this design the muscle car was outfitted with the classic running horse placed on the grille and the side scallops on the side of the car.

It was made with a 2.8 liter OHV straight six engine that had the power to thrust out 101 horsepower. Over time it was advanced to the 3.3 liter before it stopped at the 4.7 liter - which had the power to push out 220 HP. The three speed manual transmission was standard with each engine that it was outfitted with.

It did not take a long time for the Mustang to become popular to consumers. Throughout Ford Mustang history it has only improved and even now is rather common among both the older and younger generation.
